Learning Objective: You will be able to model objects that can interact with one another.

Essential Question: What are design tolerances?

Do Now: (2 min) Below is a locking container - you will model this for your final design this semester. The container and lid have been designed to interact together - kind of like a lock and key.

  • Search for repeated elements in the top and bottom. Are there any parts from the lid that you could use to model the bottom?

  • Which part do you think was modeled first - the container or the lid? Why?

Unit 3: Solid Modeling

Interacting Parts:

Locking Container

Due today:

Part 1 and start Part 2 from the Project Ignite "Build a Personal Locking Container" Tutorial

To complete:

1. Go to 03.32_Locking Container in your Google Drive.

2. Open the file and follow ALL instructions, answer all questions, and capture all screenshots.

Note: Getting this design right will be impossible without reading every instruction. Be sure to work quietly, stay focused, and read carefully so you don't have to start over midway through!

Locking Container

Over the next 2 classes, we'll create a locking container that we can print. Do you like secrets? Lock 'em inside!

Basic Laptop Rules:

1. No music. And no headphones - except when watching assigned videos.

2. Only use the laptop assigned to you.

3. Carry the laptop by the base (not the screen).

4. On task - doing so is worth 10% of your overall grade on the assignment.
