Applying An Anatomic Splint

How to position properly

How to postion part 2

For sprains or joint injuries, splint the bones above and below the site of the injury. If you are not sure if the injury is a fracture or sprain, splint both the bones and joints above and below the point of injury.

The type of injury the person may have will determine the position the splint should be in. For example, for fractures, splint the joints above and below the site of the injury.

Steps to follow while applying

1. Get Consent

2. Support injured part

3. Check circulation

4. Position bandages

5. Align body parts

6. Tie bandages securely

7. Recheck circulation

Why is it important?

It is important to follow these steps because it can further the damage of the injury more if you don't properly apply it.

Materials

Splinting materials should be soft or padded for comfort. Such as a cloth

Anatomic Splint

What is a splint?

The person's body is the splint. For example, you can splint an arm to the chest or an injured leg to the uninjured leg.

When to use this method

Splinting is a method immobilizing an injured part to minimize movement and prevent further injury. It should be used only if you have to move or transport the person to seek medical attention and if it does not cause more pain.

Splint an injury in the original position. For fractures, sprains, or joint injuries.
