Charles Law Balloon Experiment
Problem/ Task
If you place a balloon onto a flask
that is partially
full with water on to a hot plate,
what will happen to the balloon?
Hypothesis
If we place a balloon onto a flask
that is filled with water that is heated,
then the balloon will expand.
Materials
- 2 flasks
- Hot Plate
- Balloon
- Hose
- Gloves
- Water
Procedures
1. Fill up one of the flasks with 350 mL of water.
2. Connect the flask with water to the flask without water using the hose.
3. Place the flask without water on the hot plate and heat up.
4. Watch as the balloon fills up with pressure.
Analysis
Some of the observations made during the experiment would include seeing the water start to boil which meant that you were getting vapor which was filling the balloon.
It proved Charles Law because the increase of temperature made the vapor expand with volume and the balloon expands.
Conclusion
Once the balloon was placed on the flask, the water had to boil, than the balloon started expanded just as said in our original hypothesis.
