Today we will be working with 3rds.
Intervals are the space between 2 notes. This means you will be looking at 2 notes. When you see a 3rd on the staff, you will see 2 notes on neighboring lines or two notes on neighboring spaces.
Remember: Intervals can go up and down.
Now we'll take a look at intervals of a 3rd on the staff.
Now add the letter names. You reviewed in the previous section. Since the 3rd note is lower, the interval is going down, therefore the letters will be backwards. Notice that F is skipped. If F wasn't skipped the interval would be a 2nd.

The second note is on the next possible line. It has a line going right through the middle.
The first note is on the line. This means the line goes right through the middle of the note. Any note with a line through the middle of its note head in on a line.
To actually be a 3rd, the lines or spaces MUST be neighboring.
Remember that intervals can also go up.
