I think Isobel is important because we wouldn't know a lot about the great barrier reef and lots more.It would be a lot different today if we didn't have her work because we always depend on scientific discoveries and we wouldn't know anything about zoology.

Isobel spent four years on the staff of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.In Sydney she spent 4 years working for the Royal Schools of Music, but then lost her job. That year Isobel and her sister got a cabin aboard the P&O Company ship for a 5 day Christmas cruise. There she met Proffesor and Mrs. Dakin. When Professor Dakin found out that Isobel had lost her job he offered her a job to look up the logs of some of the old ships, and her career started from there. In May 1933 Isobel received a letter from the Sydney University offering her a temporary job in the department of zoology. That job lasted her 40 years.
In 1962 Isobel was awarded the first honorary master of science degree by the Sydney university. At the ANZAAS meeting in 1982 Isobel was given the Mueller Medal .She and only one other woman were the only females on the list so Isobel was very happy. In 1984 she was awarded the order of Australia award for her services to marine biology.
Isobel Bennett was born in Brisbane on the 9th of July 1909. She had a twin brother and two sisters. At the age of 14 she applied to go to Somerville House, she passed a scholarship exam and was enrolled. When she was 16 financial circumstance meant she had to leave, she then went to a business college to find a job. In 1928 her and her family moved to Sydney.
Isobel has never been married or has never had children
her full name is Isobel Eliza Toom Bennett
In 1971 Isobel retired from Sydney University. That year she wrote 'The Great Barrier Reef'. It was the first book to ever have a picture of the whole reef. Some of her other books are: 'A Coral Reef Handbook' and 'The Australian Seashores.' isobel has had 5 species of marine animals and a coral reef have been named after her. In Sydney on the 12th of January isobel sadly passed away.
