While attending Portland State University, Carolyn Davidson was in the hallway talking about how she can't afford to buy oil paints for her class. The co-founder of "Blue Ribbon Sports" ,Phil Knight ,overheard her struggle and offered her a job for $2 and hour. A year later he wanted to take the next step in to creating what's now known as "Nike". Carolyn Davidson agreed and three weeks later she came up with five to six sketches. Even though Phil Knight didn't have the best impression he then stated " I don't love it, but I think it will grow on me." She was paid $35 for her work then later honored her with a gold ring that has the "swoosh" engraved on top and 500 shares of the company, now worth over half a million today.
