People supporting/following the metric system are saying that the US customary system is outdated. They say that it is very difficult to remember the divisions. In the metric system, divisions use powers of 10. Currently there are 196 countries in the world. Only 3 of those countries haven't adopted the metric system. The US is one of them. The rest of the world uses the metric system, which leads to more proof that the customary systems are outdated.

Many people who follow the US customary system believe it will take far too long. They say that practically everyone will have to go back to school just to learn about the metric system. They also explain that signs on roads will need to be changed, and so will text book on math. This will take a very long time, and will cost a lot of money to change. This is one of the main reasons why people would rather stay using the customary system, and not change it.

CONCLUSION

Another reason why many people would rather have the metric system as our standard system of measurement is because the customary system is very complicated. Many people supporting the metric system say that the customary system's divisions are too complicated, and are almost impossible to remember. They also say that almost all the time, you have to look up a conversion table to do math homework. If we only had the metric system, this wouldn't be the case, due to it using the powers of ten. Also, many people from other countries don't understand our customary system and why we use it.

People who follow our good old US customary system say converting to the metric system would be very expensive. A major factor that will be affected would be mile markers on highways. Another thing that will be greatly affected would be math text books in schools. It would cost a lot of money in order to change the textbooks that would use measurement systems and all the signs on the highways would have to be changed to kilometers rather than miles.

People who support the US Customary System have many reasons as to why they do this. They believe converting to the Metric System would take too much time, be too expensive, and would ruin our US culture. People who support the Metric System also have many reasons for why they support it. The followers say the US Customary System is outdated, very complicated, and the Metric System has many things that are better than the US Customary System.

Some people who want to stick with the US customary system say it would ruin our culture. They say that it wouldn't show our independence from the British Empire. People also say that we would be one step closer to a World Government, which was Hitler's wish. Another reason why followers of the US customary system say we should stick to our old system, since we are so used to using it in our everyday life, and we understand it. The people say that it would be very confusing and hard to convert since we are already used to using the customary system for our lives.

There are many things in the metric system that can be considered better than the things in the customary system. For one thing, the divisions could be said to be better. The metric system remains consistent and uses powers of ten. The US customary system uses random divisions, and these are very difficult to memorize. Many also believe it's better because there is no need to ever look up a conversion table when using the metric system. You just have to remember that it's based off of powers of ten. The customary system has the random divisions, and you will need a conversion table most of the time when reading scientific articles or doing math work.
