The meaning of a mockumentary is to come at a certain topic or subject humorously, while putting across an point or lesson.

The Genre

The genre of a mockumentary is cross between a comedy and a documentary.

The content of a mockumentary can vary, it can be of something serious, or an recent event in the news and there be a humorous take on it or a film/short film on something made up or completely ridiculous.

The Target Audience

The target audience of a mockumentary ranges depending on the main themes and ideas of the specific mockumentary.

The Form and Style

The form and style of a mockumentary is a film or short film, which can be uploaded to the internet to be viewed, delivered in the style of a documentary. What is a Mockumentary?

The Frequency

The frequency of a mockumentary is usually a one off with the exception of TV shows such as The Office and The US Office which are weekly.

A mockumentary is a type of film or television show in which fictional events are presented in documentary style to create a parody. These productions are often used to analyze or comment on current events and issues by using a fictional setting, or to parody the documentary form itself. They may be either comedic or dramatic in form, although comedic mockumentaries are more common. A successful, yet controversial, mockumentary is the 2009 British film Bruno.

The Purpose

The purpose of a mockumentary is to 'take the mick' out of a certain topic and present it humorously in documentary form. The main purpose of mockumentaries are to entertain it's audience and possibly inform.

The Production Process

The production process of a mockumentary is mainly filming as usually a short film documentary does not contain many special effects or a lot of editing. Interviews with the main characters usually take place after the main filming production and are edited into the mockumentary when most appropriate.
