Why do some people think that GMOs are bad?
Some people think that the changes made in genetically modified foods will effect ones ability to reproduce when consumed. In reality over 3 generations of rats have "had no effect on fetal, postnatal, puberty, or adult testicular development in her offspring" (Norris, 2015, para. 8). This debunks the societal myth that GMOs will destroy our reproductive organs.
“Histopathological examinations of the reproductive organs, liver, kidneys, and spleen showed no differences between GMO-eating and non-GMO-eating animals...Despite 5 generations of exposure to and ingestion of the GMO, the researchers were unable to detect the gene in the rats’ DNA [5]” (Norris, 2015, para. 13).
In any subject matter you have the good and the bad.
Some companies uses GMOs to maximize profits without studying the repercussions of what they have made.
GMOs are organism that have been inserted with a desired gene that has been either genetically engineered or inserted from one organism to the next.
Gerry (2015) states that “The world population has doubled over the past 50 years and continues to grow by roughly 100 million people each year...projections of population growth and climate change could represent potential catastrophe if we don’t improve our means of growing, harvesting, and distributing crops” (para. 1-2).
