Philippines death rituals

it would not be unusual for a widow or a women who has lost a child to death to dress in black the rest of her life

Food and warm drinks are customarily served during the night vigils. It is not uncommon for those holding night vigils to sing, play instruments or play card games to pass the time and keep awake.

for up to a year often beyond, men will wear a black ribbon and women will wear a black dress to indicate they are in mourning

"funeral parlors" are not yet popular,when someone dies a wake is held either at a person's home or at a funeral parlor.

other rituals that extend the period of mourning include holding masses for a specific dead person at several local churches over the weeks following the death

majority of the people are Christians, they have also retained some traditional indigenous beliefs concerning death

During this time the embalmed body of the dead is placed in a coffin and displayed
