Verbal Irony

Romeo and Juliet Irony

Verbal Irony Funny Examples

"I lost all my money! That's Great!"

A figure of speech in which what is said is not what is meant.

Me- Ms. Hull, I didn't read Chapter 6!

Ms. Hull- Well aren't you lucky!

In Scene 5, when Juliet wants the nurse to find out who Romeo is:

"Go ask his name: if he be married.

My grave is like to be my wedding bed."

"Look at your face! It's as pleasant as a root canal!"

This is verbal irony because the audience already knows that her grave is going to be her wedding bed they know she's going to die.

"My cookie is softer than concrete!"

"Your hands smell better than poop"
