The Seven Characteristics of Life

Heredity

Cats share traits from their parents like humans. Two blonde cats will most likely mean the baby will have blonde fur. They can share eye colors with their parents too.

Cellular Organization

Reproduction

Cats reproduce like all mammals. They birth their babies live. They feed them milk and care for them until a certain age. Cats have litters, which means most of the time they have more than one child during birthing.

Cats exhibit cellular organization because they have animal cells which are organized the same as every other animal cell. The cells turn into tissue. Then into an organ, then an organ system. Which forms the cat. As the cats grow more cells are needed to form more tissue.

The Seven Properties of Life

Featuring: The Cat

In this prezi, you will discover how the cat represents each of the properties of life.

Responsiveness

Homeostasis

Cats respond to the environment. When it is raining or cold, they seek refuge, aka your house. When it is hot, they sunbathe. When there is a lot of food around, like mice, they hunt.

They maintain an average body temperature, maintain PH levels, and amount of water in them. Their body maintains these in order to survive. If these, for example temperature, get very high, they might get sick and die.

Metabolism

Growth

A cat's metabolism breaks down food and turns it into energy for the cat. It may turn it into proteins or vitamins for the cat also.

Cats grow over over a period of 6 to 24 months until they are full size. It depends on the type of cat and their size. Over that period their tails, ears, body, teeth, and everything else grows to full size. Over time baby cats gain the ability to open their eyes and live by themselves without their mothers help.
