Interference

Wave interference is the phenomenon that occurs when two waves meet while traveling along the same medium. The interference of waves causes the medium to take on a shape that results from the net effect of the two individual waves upon the particles of the medium.

Constructive Interference- A crest to crest interfere or a trough and a trough interfere.

Destructive Interference- If the interfering waves have displacement in opodite directions.

Diffraction.

Start

Diffraction

-When light was seemingly being bent around the edge of the window frame blocking its path. This behavior was called DIFFRACTION.

-Diffraction occurs with all waves, including sound waves, water waves, and electromagnetic waves such as visible light, X-rays and radio waves.

In 1649, Franciso Grimaldi observe that when sunlight came into a room through a window, the edges of window farme cast sharp shadow who edges contained bright and dark bonds of light.

In 1801, Thomas Young showed that light could manifest interference effects.
