Motilin Hormone

Hormones

General Functions

Motilin

  • The general functions of hormones are to regulate anything in the body.
  • Our hormone is produced to help regulate the gastrointestinal tract by emptying it out.

Specifically our hormone is produced in the small intestine and also effects the small intestine. It is produced in between meals to move food along your intestinal tract. It also contracts the gallbladder and Pyloric sphincter. Motilin is also known as "The house keeper of the gut" because it improves peristalsis. The receptors are found just inside by the Pyloric Sphincter.

Sited Sources

Real Life

Motilin can be related to real life because of the effects that it can have if you have a Motilin imbalance. The stomach cramps and diarrhea that can be caused by IBS is not a good thing. And if you get IBS that usually means that you are stressed or maybe dealing with depression. Both these effect your Motilin balance and in turn will effect your life.

Homeostatic Imbalance

Imbalance

  • An imbalance in Motilin can cause IBS to occur.
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) can be caused by stress, anxiety or even depression.
  • Symptoms of IBS are Stomach cramps, Diarrhea, and Bloating.

Treatments

  • IBS can be treated with Psychotherapy, meditation, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
  • People can also take medications to help with the stomach cramps that IBS can give people.

Nervous Impact

Motilin does not effect the nervous system in any way. But the nervous system helps tell when Motilin needs to be released and when it needs to stop being released. Neuron receptors sense when the intestines need to be emptied and release Motilin then to start the process. And then just the opposite when it needs to stop the process.
