The Big Biscuit was founded here in Kansas City by Dan Gerson, whose son Luke graduated Barstow with the class of 2015. The restaurant has been serving KC natives since 2000, but in 2010 began expansion when potential partners took interest in the breakfast and lunch diner. New restaurants appeared under individual ownership of different locations, making this a franchise. From then, The Big Biscuit grew and now has 9 locations across the local KC region and other parts of KS and MO.

Operation Breakthrough is a nonprofit organization located in Kansas City, Missouri. I personally have volunteered with this organization before and believe what they are doing is phenomenal. This business provides underprivileged children the ability to grow into intelligent young men and women with an early stage education development system. They give kids a warm, safe environment to learn and blossom. They direct donation money towards the education, teachers, and facility to guide more and more impoverished children, making them a nonprofit organization. They are always welcoming volunteers.

The Cajun Cabin is a food truck that operates in the KC area cooking up New Orleans style cuisine. The truck is independent, so this small business is considered a self proprietor business. People can follow the stops of the truck through social media and the company's website. They serve dishes such as gumbo and jambalaya, and many great reviews.
