One of the first places investigators checked was a local school for problem teenagers.
Gordon Hay was a student at the school because he was arrested for breaking into a factory
Hay lived with two other boys who, along with other witnesses, lead investigators to suspect Hay as the murderer
Many boys attending the school were asked for teeth impressions, as well as Gordon Hay who agreed to have them taken and denied any involvement in the murder.
Around 29 impressions were taken and given to Dr. Warren Harvey to match to the bite mark
Shortly after receiving witness statements of seeing a boy and a girl in the cemetery and hearing screams Harvey was able to narrow the impressions down to 5 possible matches
This is the upper half of Gordon hays teeth
and the bottom teeth which show some of the individual characteristics
17 year old Gordon Hay was convicted of the murder of Linda peacock February 26, 1968
To narrow down the 5 remaining impressions Keith Simpson joined the case.
Harvey and Simpson discovered individual characteristics in an impression which had pits in the right-side canines.
investigators were able to prove the bite mark belonged to him and was not caused by any other object.
The impression belonged to Hay and the pits were the result of a condition determined to be hypoplasia.
These matched the bite found on the victim.
- A bite mark found on the victims right breast
-lacerations and burn marks
other evidence such as the lacerations and chord found at the crime scene also helped to convict Gordon Hay.
- The string Hay used to strangle the victim was hanging from a tree
