Overall Analysis

Due to the French land being controlled by English kings and lords, along with a divided France, the English were able to start a conflict with the French; which gave rise to leaders and a united France.

The basic cause of the 100 Years War was when William of Normandy formed a state lying on both sides of the English Channel. In the 14th centuary, the English kings held the duchy of Guienne in France. The immediate causes of the Hundred Years War were: the dissatisfaction of Edward III of England with the non fulfillment by Philip VI of France ; the English attempts to control Flanders, (an important market for English wool and a source of cloth); and Philip's support of Scotland rather than England.

The Hundred Years' War was initially caused by the tension between the monarchs of England and France, the English attempts to control Flanders, and Philip's support of Scotland rather than England. This led the the beginning of the long battle that would affect both England and France, but also Europe as a whole. During the battle the English seemed to be dominating at first. This affected England by giving them a boost in spirit through this war and France was quickly losing momentum and was suffering heavy losses. This gave an opportunity for a new hero, which was found in Joan of Arc. She was very instrumental in the war for France, helping to win many key battles and turn the war in their favor. This affected England as well by putting them on the losing side of the war and Europe was affected because the outcome of this war would shape history and Joan was able to change the outcome. Joan's achievements eventually lead to French victory in 1453.

The effects of Joans' achievements inspired the French and led to two extremely decisive victories over the English. The French defeated the British in an important battle in Normandy and an equally important battle in Aquitaine.

As a result, the Hundred Years' War began. The Hundred Years' War was a long battle between England and France; over rule to the French throne. It lasted for 116 years, from 1337 to 1453. The war starts off with multiple victories on Britain's part, the English forces dominated France for decades. In the 1360s, the French was winning; however, From 1415-1422, the English were winning. After 1415, King Henry V of England revived the campaign and he won over large portions of France, winning extraordinary political stands. From 1422 onward, however, the French crown strikes back.

The results of these two English defeats was French victory in 1453. England was affected because they had great losses and gained little, and France was affected because although they suffered great losses as well, they won the war and gained a strong national identity. Europe was affected as a result as well because the war that had been raging over the continent had finally ended.

Joan of Ark was a very important figure for the French during the war and the effect of her achievements greatly influenced the direction of the war. She helped the French win many great battles. This affected England and France by changing the way the war was going. Joan affected Europe by helping to get the advantage for the French, shaping history through the outcome of the war. Joan also helped solidify the Catholic church in France.

As a result of the long standing tension between France and England and dispute over French land the 100 Years' War began, adding to Europe's already chaotic state. For over 5 years the English dominated the French, but in 1422 the French began to win battles.

Joan of Arc is very important in french history, due to her tremendous contribution to the unification of France in the 100 Years War. When she was 13 years old, she heard voices from God and they began telling her to disguise herself as a man and join the French army to fight against England. In 1942, the voices instructed Joan to go see the future ruler of France, Charles VII and convince him that it was her divine mission to help save France. She was given troops and dressed as a man , lead them. Joan won many victories over England and saved France from English rule. Her biggest victory was winning back Orleans from the English in 1429 when she was 17 years old, before she was captured. Joan of Arc was captured and sold to the English in 1430. Joan was put on trial because the English thought she was hearing voices from the devil . She was burned at the stake in 1431. In 1456, the people of France finally realized that Joan was innocent. St. Joan of Arc was a very caring and brave woman who helped France win the Hundred Years War.
