Coyote Comes to life Four Times

Talia McCurry

The End

What I like about coyote

Coyotes Purpose and How he Differs

He is a mix of good and bad.

Example:

In another myth that involves giants he makes the giant break his leg because he had been eating children.

All of his good may not outweigh the bad but he is still crucial to Native American Culture.

I also like how wise he is. Usually he outsmarts everyone he comes in contact with.

Unsympathetic traits:

  • He is deceitful
  • He is a Thief
  • He is the embodiment of "What not to do" in most of the myths.

Purpose:

He serves as many aspects of evil.

ex. Dishonesty

How he is different:

  • Although he is considered a trickster he is also holy.
  • He is the cause of a lot of the worlds creation even if they are mistakes.

Why Coyote is considered a trickster

Example:

In the story, in order to kill the giant Coyote tricks him into believing that if he cuts the flesh of his thigh to the bone, and then breaks the bone that he will become as fast of a runner as coyote.

The story

Sculpture of Ataed' diy ini / Changing Bear

  • Coyote wants to marry the maiden Ataed' diy ini who is later named Changing Bear.
  • She refuses to marry him unless he kills a giant and comes back to life four times.
