Purpose
We predict that our bottle with the salt in it will rust the nails the most.
Rust (iron oxide) is an irreversible change that we see when we have metal, air and rain water. It is a brown substance that we see on nails, a pan or any metal. The main cause of rust is water. Hydrogen in the water combines with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and forms a weak acid
The purpose of this experiment was to find out which nails would rust in bottles with different amounts of salt and water
Equipment and steps
First we got a plastic bottle We put 4 nails in the bottle and shook salt into the bottle. Next we filled up about 1/4 of the bottle with water and left it for a week.
