The Quraysh were jealous of the success the muslims had in Abyssinia, which is why they had a plan. They sent two of their very shrewd envoys, to Abyssinia to have the muslims return to their home country.
The 2 representatives of Quraysh bribed the Abyssinian bishops to get access to the king. When they did, they presented the king with gifts from Arabia, and told the king that some foolish men from their country had come here, and abandoned their religion, and invented a new one. They asked for them to come back to their home.
The prophet directed the Muslim community to migrate to Abyssinia and take shelter there, with Uthman bin Affan as their leader.
After 2 months of migrating to Abyssinia, the prophet returned to Makkah. All chieftains were present, and the surah 'Al Najm' was revealed.
Once the Quraysh heard the surah, they were so impressed, that they started to prostrate along side with the muslims.
After hearing this, the kinng asked Ja'far to recite some verses from the Quran, and he recited the opening verses from surah Maryam. Upon hearing it, the king started to cry. He told the men from Quraysh that to go back to their country, and told the muslims that he would've never given them to the men, nor would he let anyone mistreat them.
Once the muslims back in Abyssinia heard the news of the Quraysh prostrating to Allah, they had become joyful, and started to migrate back to Makkah. But once they reached there, they realised nothing had changed from the past, and set of again to Abyssinia.
After the prostration of the Quraysh, they started to appear weak, and the people thought that they were giving in to the message of the prophet. Not only were they feeling regretful, but also, they were feeling jealous from the hospitality of the king of Abyssinia to the muslims.
The prophet began using the house of Arqam bin Abi-Al-Arqam as a secret place for prayer, preaching, educating and training.
The prophet would meet his companions there, and would then recite verses from the Quran.
As for the prophet, he was not ashamed at all to pray in public, for all to see.
The king was a fair judge, and upon hearing this, he said that he would allow both parties to speak, before making his decision.
Once the muslims entered the court, Ja'far bin Abu Talib, who was the prophets cousin, said they were a nation steeped into ignorance. They worshiped idols, and committed many abominations and mistreated their neighbors. This was all until they met the prophet, when he invited them to the oneness of god, to worship him alone without associating anything with him.
He also said that they were at Abyssinia for protection.
The next day, the men from Quraysh came back again to get them this time. They had come up with a new tactic. They told the king that the muslims had said a dreaded thing about Jesus, but when the king asked the muslims what they thought about him, they replied that he too was a prophet of Allah, and was a spirit and a word cast unto the blessed virgin Mary.
The king once again sent the 2 men back to Arabia -along with their gifts- and promised the muslims that he wont let anything happen to them. The 2 men shamefully returned back to Arabia.
