Introduction

Now choose one of the five reasons, why would this reason mean that Henry might want to break from Rome?

Henry VIII left the Roman Catholic Church for a variety of reasons. These were__________________________________.

In addition, another reason for Henry VIII leaving the Catholic Churchwas________________________________________.

Finally, Henry VIII decided to leave the Catholic Church because of_________________________________________.

I think that the most important reason that Henry VIII broke away from the Catholic Church is because he wanted an Heir. This was more important than money and power because without a son he could not continue the Tudor dynasty. Gaining more money and power was a result of breaking away from the Catholic Church but not the main reason.

Henry VIII broke from the Roman Catholic Church for different reasons. The reasons were religion, power, money, love and he wanted an heir.

First Paragraph

The first reason Henry wanted to break from the Catholic Church was because he wanted more power over Priests. The Priests would rather support the Pope in Rome rather than their own king! Henry wanted to control the Priests in his own country.

In conclusion, the most important reason for Henry VIII leaving the Catholic Church was___________________. I believe this because __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.

An Heir

Henry believed he needed a son so the Tudor dynasty could survive.

Power

Religion

There had always been struggles whether Priests should obey the Pope or the King. Henry wanted to control the Church and the people in his own country.

Henry was a Catholic but did not like having to ask the Pope for a divorce. He wanted to create his own Church.

The second reason is that Henry was bankrupt. By shutting down all the Monasteries in England Henry could claim all the gold and land and make himself lots of money.

Why did Henry VIII break from Rome?

Guess who?

Money

Love

Henry had fallen in love with Anne Boleyn and wanted to marry her.

Third Paragraph

Success Criteria

Finally, Henry really wanted an heir to rule the country after Henry had died. His wife Catherine of Aragon, had not given him a son. Henry wanted a divorce so he could re-marry. The only person who could give Henry a divorce was the Pope. The Pope had refused. This meant that Henry broke from the Catholic Church and created his own church so he could give himslef a divorce.
