The Bionic Ear

By Seth Argana

Who, Where And When Was The Bionic Ear Invented?

This brilliant invention was a creation of a long duration of study done by Professor Graeme Clark and was initially distributed to the public in Melbourne, Victoria in the year, 1978.

Describe How The Bionic Ear Works

What Is The Contribution To The World Of This Invention?

Who Was The First Person To Successfully Use The Bionic Ear

The bionic ear consists of three serious, namely the external sound processor, the receiver-stimulator and the electrical wire that attaches the two. The external sound processor functions like a microphone that receives sound and forwards them to the receiver-stimulator through the electrical wire that is placed underneath the skin. The receiver-stimulator in turn converts the noise into electrical impulses that tap the auditory nerve. These sets of impulses creates code-like statements which are then transported to the brain permitting the user to interpret.

What Were The Challenges That Were Encountered During The Early Days Of Research About The Bionic Ear?

In 1978, Professor Clark winningly presented and checked the first bionic ear through the assist of Rod Saunders, the very first recipient of the contraption.

Through the help of manufacturer Cochlear, this revolutionary invention has now helped over 320,000 people around the world, young and old, overcome deafness.

The invention of the bionic ear also encountered challenges during the early stages of Professor Clark’s inquiry. Initially, the sound being forwarded into the central ear could not go deep enough to attain the auditory nerve. Propitiously, he was able to uncover the resolution while furloughing with his family where he came across a sea shell formed like the inner ear. This allowed him to comprehend how best to distribute the noise deep into the human ear.

What Is A Bionic Ear And How Does It Help People?

The bionic ear is one of the most well-known inventions that originated from Australia. It is a miniature device that uses electricity to activate the auditory nerve and enable people who can not hear, or have lost their awareness of hearing, to be capable to hear.
