- has salt water, fresh water, or a mixture of salt and fresh water
- water covers the soil so it is mud
- mud acts like sponge absorbing water
- temperature in summer is 76* f. in winter it is 30* f.

- have thick skin
- look like crocodiles but have u shaped snouts
- spend time in the sun in cool parts of the day when they get too hot they go in the water
