Two global issues DWOB have been apart of
Some examples of global issues were the big Ebola outbreak in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. The outbreak inflicted over 28,000 people in West Africa. There are still small outbreaks in those three countries but they have controlled most of the outbreak. Another global issue they have been apart of was supporting Hurricane Matthew. They helped Haiti by giving them food, water, medical supplies and treatment.
Participating members
There are over 60 out of the 196 countries in the world. Canada is one of them. The specialists that DWOB use are surgeons, anesthesiologists and OBGYNs. A OBGYN specializes in women's reproductive health, care for women during their pregnancy and just after the baby is born. They also deliver babies.
major activities
DWOB is a health organization with 33,000 staff in about 70 countries. They give medical care to people affected by war and disease outbreaks who are most in need. An example was in 2015, 214 million cases of malaria was reported. DWOB noticed it was more common in poor areas. They helped by giving them ACTs, which is the best working treatment for malaria. ACTs have low toxicity, few side effects and acts rapidly against the parasites.
Purpose and Goals
Purpose To send doctors to different countries and help the people medically after a wreck or bad disease that has been going around. They try to prevent the situation right when it starts or before it happens. DWOB recruits medical, administrative, and logistical support personnel to provide medical care to people in crisis.
