Free Repositories

Food Grade: Sold by Bilby 3D as "CoPolyester (Natural) High Strength Food Grade Filament"

  • There are pre-set temperature & support profiles
  • Make sure you choose the right one for your plastic
  • Select 'Start Print' to occur after slicing

Many types and composites! Most are based on PLA or ABS.

Never leave any HSBNE printers printing unattended. They are all capable of burning down HSBNE and it is not excellent to leave them going with nobody around.

Extrusion

http://wiki.hsbne.org/tools

  • Traditional Method
  • Soft and Hard extrustion
  • Greatest Material Range

How does it work?

  • Layers.

Check Object Orientation

Print!

ABS

It needs to have a flat surface or use support structures to adhere to the platform. If you need help orienting your STL try using Meshmixer and this video

Turn on Machine

Press print. The file will take a little while to send and for the extruders to heat. Watch the first layer to make sure it adheres well. Look at thee cost calculation and make a donation in the Digifab tin.

Different Types

Plugged in, switch on the back of the machine flicked on?

  • Stronger, durable.
  • Printing temp: 230-250°C
  • Printbed temp: 80-120°C
  • Glass transition temp: 80-120°C

Light Curing

  • DLP: Digital Light Processing
  • SLA: Stereolithiography

Check on the print every 10-15 minutes to make sure it's still printing well. Don't leave for hours at a time!

PLA

  • Extrusion
  • Light Curing
  • Powder

Print Removal

  • Biodegradeable materials
  • Printing temp: 190-220°C
  • Printbed temp: 50-70°C (heated bed not mantatory)
  • Glass transition temp: 60-65°C

Octoprint

  • Try to be careful with the platform
  • Use a pair side-cutters and push the print up off the bed by closing them on a corner of the print.

Powder Based

Limitations

  • Most Accurate Method, hard to detect layers
  • Metal 3D printing

  • ABS/Acetone
  • PLA/XTC-3D Brush on Coating
  • Sanding
  • Painting

  • Material Choice
  • Directional weakness
  • Shape limitations

Load Filament

Interested in becoming a maintainer?

Use the panel on the taz to preheat the nozzle and withdraw/extrude the new filament. Make sure it's the 3mm stock.

Speak to James!

Filament does not Extrude Properly

Filament Extrudes

Extruder clogged

Extrusion should be clean and straight. If it contains bubbles, discolouration or is not flowing freely it is likely clogged.

Load a 3D Model

These machines are maintained by members of the Digital Fabrication Cause. Please speak with the listed maintainer before trying to maintain them.

Plug in the USB cable to the computer and open UP! Studio. Load in a new model using the plus button.
