Many mountains make it hard for living and transportation. Most people live in farming or out in the open (Langley) near the river valleys at the bottom of the mountains. There are some large cities such as Vancouver and Victoria, built on the flat land in coastal locations.
The Canadian Cordillera covers about one-sixth of Canada`s territory. The region extends from the northern Yukon Territory to the United States, and most of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory and small parts of the Northwest Territories and Alberta. Geographers often describe the Cordillera as the mountain backbone of North and South America.
Fishing is a popular job because the fish that are caught in the ocean are sold for money. The most valuable fish is salmon, but the finest fish is halibut.
The mountains provide everything that the trees need to grow. The trees that grow the best here are Evergreen (coniferous), which covers most of the Cordillera, Douglas Fir and Red Cedar.
The mountainous terrain offers entertainment like in Whistler the mountain provides skiing, Mount Revelstoke National Park provides camping, and Shuswap Lake provides fishing and picnics.
People who live in this region spend lots of money to attract tourists, which in return helps people to have jobs.
Within the Okanogan Valley area, rich soil and long frost-free days allow fruit and vegetables to grow. Damming rivers for the use in hydroelectricity and irrigation for valley bottoms to grow crops. Without irrigation crops could not grow as it remains too dry as there is little rain. These are only some ways people earn money but as you can see many of these industries have many other industries that are dependent on their success.
• The Cordillera region is located beside the Pacific Ocean. The landscape includes long chains of high jagged peaks, deep valleys, plateaus, and coastal islands. The Rocky Mountains and the Coastal Mountains are situated in this region.
• The climate is this area varies greatly because of the mountain ranges. The climate in the coast is mild, wet and rarely has snow that stays. The interior of the Cordillera is usually colder and dryer with large amounts of snow. During the summertime it is warmer and there is less amounts of precipitation. Winters in the northern regions can last up to 8 months.
• The vegetation of this region is affected by elevation. It composed by Douglas fir, forage grass, lodge pole pine, white spruce, and ponderosa pine. It also has different types of grasses.
• The landforms of this region are affected by plate collisions.

The landforms in the Cordillera have a great impact on the climate of the area. Near the coast it is usually mild and wet due to the ocean. But during the summer it is warm and during the winter it is very cold with temperatures above freezing.
