New Jersey: School officials have the right to act as parents and they should not need a warrant to make searches.

TLO: Argued that school officials are employees of the state, not representatives of parents so they should not have the right to act as parents.

After they opened the purse there was a pack of cigarettes and rolling papers associated with the use of marijuana. The girl felt that it was against the fourth amendment to make her show them what was in her purse. She later sued the school saying they violated her 4th amendment rights.
