At the beginning of the film Tate wanted to be like a normal child. At the end of the film Tate show his adult like qualities, but at the same time wanted to be a kid.

Genes social order dramatically changes from the beginning of novel to the end. It begins with Gene trying to be a copy or replica of Finny. Then as the story progresses he transforms into his own state of being.
The values of the social order become noticeable in the protagonist, who is finally incorporated into the society.
