Ellis Island

Creation of Parks in Urban Areas

Labor Day

It was first opened as an Immigration Station on January 1st, 1892

Parks were created to provide an outdoor location for people to mingle, exercise, or relax.

People started to play sports, have picnics, and go for walks in the park.

It allowed immigrants to enter the United States and become citizens

More parks were created in urban areas to provide a break from the hustle and bustle of city life

Ellis Island was located on an island, and its most magnificent room was the registry room

Labor Day was first designated as a national holiday in the 1890s.

It is a national holiday for Americans and Canadians

It used to be a widely celebrated holiday, in the sense that there were lots of parades and celebrations, but now not many people go to such measures for labor day.

In Henrico County today, there are around 35 parks in the county.

where, at one point, they processed 6,500 people in nine hours.

Lizzie Borden

Subway System first created

In 1892, a girl murdered her father and stepmother with an ax, and there was no evidence or murder weapon found. The girl, named Lizzie Borden, was arrested for the murder of both of her parents, and because women were considered the weaker sex, it was a big deal that she went to court.

Officially, the case was never resolved. During the time of the trial, Lizzie Borden was a media sensation

In London in the 1890s, the City & South London Railway was opened in 1890. It was the first deep underground electric railway that used electric traction

Conspiracy?

Nowadays

Since then...

This case was controversial because of Lizzie’s age, gender, and social standing. Her father was filthy rich, she was only 32, and she was a female.

There’s a jump rope rhyme that goes like this:

"Lizzie Borden took an ax

and gave her mother forty whacks.

When she saw what she had done,

she gave her father forty-one"

This case was unsolved, primarily due to prejudice and the idea that women were the weaker gender. Nowadays, courts are more fair and other factors such as gender, age, race are no longer reason for a defendant to be proven guilty or innocent.

Since the creation of an underground electric subway system, London has gone on to create a complex system of around 270 stations.

There are more than 100 cities in the world that are home to subway systems.
