Romantic movement was an artistic, literary, and intellectual movement that originated in Europe. It was a revolt against social and political norms of the age of Enlightenment and a reaction against the scientific rationalization of nature.

During the romantic time period, the music often took on a nationalism purpose.

E.g. Jean Sibelius' Finlandia has been interpreted to represent the rising nation of Finland.

Most romantic composers wanted to compose music that would give people a sense of what their country was like.

Romantic music is a term denoting an era of Western Classical music that began in the late 1800 or early 1900 century. This was related to romanticism music, the European artistic and literary movement. Romantic music was particullarily dominant in Germany.

Traits

Then: Romantic music was used to connect with nature rather then getting the opposite genders attention. Also it was a ghostly and unusual sound.

Now: Romantic music is the total opposite. It is to connect with the opposite gender and not nature. It also has a softer sound to it.
