The EVENT

Setting

Alex launching into space

Alex had to blast off into space at the end

of the book to stop the leader of a terrorist

group from blowing up all of Washington

DC.

" At first it was slow. Alex felt a shuddering, vague to start with, but soon it was all-consuming. The entire capsule was shaking." (Horowitz 298)

How the Setting is portrayed in the book

Visual Simile/What I learned from reading

"Planet Earth, from outer space"(Horowitz 191)

Life is like whack-a-mole, you don't know which mole will pop up next but you have to be prepared and keep fighting.

I learned to keep fighting even when the odds are stacked against you. I also learned that you can do anything you put your mind too. And that a strong mind and will are very hard to stop!

The main part of the book takes place up in space where the two main characters, Alex and Kasper who is an environmental psycho have a fight to the death on the cutting edge space hotel Ark Angel. The winner gets to go on the rocket back home, and the loser loses his life. If Alex loses, So could Humanity. This relates to the theme Because Alex had to persevere to beat Kaspar and survive.

The title Ark Angel represents the task at hand, a terrorist group called Force 3 is going to blow up a state of the art space hotel and it will rain down on Washington DC if Alex doesn't stop it. Even if it does not represent the theme straight away it represents what is at stake and what the theme plays into.

Current World Issue

The THEME

The CHARACTER

With a quote

Alex Rider

The current world issue that I chose was Terrorism, because 13 years ago

we had an attack on America that was very real and the attack in the book

was looking like if it worked it would have took out the white house instead

of the twin towers.

The theme that I saw in the book was to never back down, you may be faced with many different challenges and things that you think you may not be able to overcome but you can overcome those things if you don't back down.

"I know you don't want to do it. But, believe me, we wouldn't ask you if there was any other way." (Horowitz 292)

Alex Rider is a 14 year old special agent who is the "secret weapon" of British intelligence agency M16. He gets beaten and bruised but he never gives up and has saved his country many times.

" His last missions had taken a toll, not to mention the stitches in the middle of his chest." (Horowitz 16)
