Step 1:

To set up Internet Explorer on a Windows PC, just follow these simple steps. We’ve used images from Windows Vista, but don’t worry if you’re using another version of Windows – the steps will be the same, even though the screens might look a little different.

1.Double-click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop to open your web browser.

2.In Internet Explorer, click on Tools, then click on Internet Options.

Your computer inculdes hardware and software that allows you to connect to the internet. The following sections in the presentation will give you more information about these tasks:

Choosing the type of internet connection you want , such as broad band, wireless or dial-up ad connect the hardware.

Choosing an internet service provider(ISP)

Click on the LAN Settings button. The following screen opens:

Make sure that there are no boxes ticked in this window. If any are boxes ticked, remove the ticks by clicking on them.

You must set up internet service before you can connect to the internet. The computer includes the following softwares features to help you set up a new internet account:

easy internet sign-up ( it is only avaible in some locations)

ISP-provider icons ( Avaible only in some locations)

Windows Connect to the internet Wizard ( Avaible in all Locations )

If the easy Internet Sign up utility is

supported in the country you bought

your computer in you can access the

utility using the following methods:

Double click the Easy Internet Sign up icon on the Windows Desktop.

Select - Start>All programs>Online Serivces> Easy internet sign-up.

If ISP-provided icons are supported in the

country you bought the computer in , the

icons may either be displayed either individually

on the windows desktop or grouped in

the desktop in a folder named Online services.

To setup a new Internet account

Double click an icon, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

7.Click on OK to close the window.

8.Finally, click on the Apply button (if it’s active), then click on OK

That’s it! You’re now ready to connect to the Internet.

3.Click on the Connections tab. The Connections tab contains information and settings about the way that your computer connects to the Internet.

4.If you connect to the Internet using Virgin Media Broadband, make sure that Never dial a connection is selected.

Using the windows connect to

the internet wizard

You can use the windows Connect to the internet

wizard to connect to the internet in any of these

cases:

If you already have an account with an ISP

If you have a disc from an ISP

If you don't have an internet account and would

like to select an ISP from the list provided with the wizard.

To access the windows Connect to the internet Wizard

and instructions for the wizarrd, follow this step:

Once you have installed the wireless router,

you’re ready to set up your web browser to

use your broadband connection.How you do

this depends on which web browser and

operating system you’re using. In this section,

we describe how to set up Internet Explorer for

Windows and Safari for Mac. If you use another

browser, refer to the Help supplied with the

browser to find out how to set it up.

Click on Tools in the menu bar at the top of the window, then click on Accounts… The Internet Accounts window displays with the All tab selected.

Click on the Mail tab, then click on the Add button to display a sub-menu. Click on Mail, as shown below:

Step 1 :

  • At the My incoming mail server is a … server drop-down box, select POP3
  • At the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: prompt, type in pop.virgin.net

At the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: prompt, type in smtp.virgin.net

Click on Next.

  • At Account name and Password, enter your account name and password.
  • If you don’t want to type in the password every time you log on to Outlook Express, click in the Remember password check box to display a tick.

Do not tick the Log on using Secure Password Authentication check box.

Click on Next

Then :

To set up an email account, you need to use the Internet Connection Wizard. This is a simple step-by-step program that allows Outlook Express 6 to gather the necessary information from you. Simply follow the steps below:

Double-click on the Outlook Express icon on your computer's desktop (similar to the image displayed below) to launch the program.

If you do not have this icon on your desktop, click on the Start button, select All Programs, then select Outlook Express. The following window displays:

The Internet Connection Wizard opens, as shown below:

At the Display name prompt, enter the name that you want people to see when they receive emails from you. Most people use their full name (first name and surname, for example Richard Branson), however you can choose any name. This does not have to match the name in your email address.

  • This means that you have now successfully set up Outlook Express 6 for Virgin Media email.

Click on the Finish button to save all your settings and exit the Internet Connection Wizard. You are returned to the Internet Accounts window.

You will now see the email account that you have just set up listed in the window.

If there is more than one email account listed, you can choose to set your newly created account as your default account. Setting it as the default means that it will be the account which will always be used to send your email, unless you select another account for a particular email. To set the default, simply click on your chosen email account to highlight it, and then click on the Set as Default button.

Click on the Close button in order to close the Internet Accounts window and return to the main Outlook Express window.

  • Click on Next.

In the E-mail address: text box, enter the Virgin Media email address that you want to add to Outlook Express. This is in the format your.name@virgin.net

For example, type in richard.branson@virgin.net

Click on Next.

That's it! Your email address is set up,

and ready for use in Outlook Express 6.
