Experience in Parliment, and

and colony he represented

From 1872-1896, Oliver Mowat was the third premier of Ontario. During the period he was announced the longest premier to stay in government for Ontario and third longest premier in history of Canada so far. Mowat trained as a lawyer before joining politics. In the month of January John a MacDonald invited him to work for him. Out of the three conferences he participated in the Quebec conference which was held in October 1864. He was in the reform party of grits party which was led by George brown. He represented the colony of Canada west since he was in the reform party of grits. He did join john a Macdonald but he didn’t trust him so that led him to George brown. November 14 1864 was a special day for him because on that day he took the role of being vice chancellor of upper Canada but also had retired from politics for a short period of time. Oliver Mowat did want confederation to happen with all the colonies.

Birth Place, Family and

Education.

Mowat had a lot of battles with the federal government, and winning those battles made the federal government weak and it allowed each colonie to have way more power than john a Macdonald had intended them to have. Those battles happened in the 1800s.

Out of all the 36 fathers of confederation Oliver Mowat was a famous one. He was born in Kingston Ontario, Upper Canada on July 22 1820. Oliver was the oldest son of Helen Levack and John Mowat. His parents were natives from Scotland. His father was a member of the British army. He never went to public schools, instead he was enrolled in private schools in Kingston Ontario. After Oliver Mowats marriage he raised five children in Kingston. Oliver Mowat was the eldest son of his five siblings. Bower Mowat was one of Oliver Mowats siblings.
