Somebody, Please Tell Me Who I Am by Peter Lerangis

By : Cole Ellwein

Theme

I don't really think there was one specific theme. I think the biggest theme was not to give up. Mainly because the doctor's couldn't even get Ben to remember his own memories. He couldn't remember his own family even. Until he came home and for a while when he was at his home he didn't even remember. Until his brother somehow got Ben right again.

Characterization

Conflict

  • Ben - His character is dynamic and really round. "I finally remember who you all are."(p.g. 159)
  • Ariela - Her character is definitely dynamic and round too.

Connections

  • One big connection I had with this book was that I had been in a play
  • Another one is that I deal with guns and hunt, so did Ben
  • The last one is that I also have a brother

Personal review

  • I would have rated it a 7 out of 10
  • Mainly because the book is really slow and gets off topic a few times
  • But the book does keep you entertained while you read
  • Another reason for the lower rating was that I thought it was going to be a war book, but it was more of a romance kind of thing

Setting

  • One conflict was Ariela vs. Self - Mainly because it was hard for her to look at Ben after the incident happened.
  • Second conflict is Ben vs. The Iraqi's - Because he was over in Iraq to find and fight the terrorists.
  • The setting is in America to start and then goes to Iraq
  • Ben is going to Iraq to serve in the army.
  • Ben then comes back and move across the U.S.

Plot

  • The first big event in the plot is when Ben turns down college to join the army.
  • He then goes to get on the train with his girlfriend and he proposed to her before he gets on.
  • Then she says, "Yes. And I'm going to acting school."
  • While Ben is away Ariela meets with a guy.
  • Then the IED happens.
  • Ariela gets drunk and tells the guy about her fiance.
  • He is medevaced right away.
  • His family and friends get the news about Ben
  • He get's back to the U.S.
  • Ben sits in a coma for two months.
  • Ben is ready to come home and doesn't remember most of his family.
  • Ben's brother finally gets Ben to remember what he used to have.

Point of View

  • The point of view is 1st person except that it switches between two people.
