- Impromptu can be seen in business type settings, educational settings, or special occasion speeches.
- Extemporaneous can be used in almost EVERY setting. For example: seminars, class, conferences, courtrooms, special occasion speeches...and the list goes on and on!

- Visual aids are unusual.
- Listen and anticipate.
- Recall basic speech organization.
- Be brief and concise.
- Use your limited time wisely to make a mental outline/scratch sheet of paper (Topic? What is my view? What is my support?)
- Good eye contact.
- Appropriate topic selection.
- Ethical audience analysis.
- Vocalics.
- Kenesis.
- Nonverbals/Body Language.
- Formal yet casual language selection.
- Natural delivery style.
- Prone to rambling.
- Requires some level of organization.

- The key to an extemporaneous speech is a well-organized OUTLINE.
- Practice your speech.
- Visual aids are not common, but you can have something like a PowerPoint.
- Extemporaneous allows prep time where as impromptu is spur of the moment.
- Extemporaneous allows for some sort of physical guideline where as impromptu, at best, can offer a scratch sheet of paper.
- Impromtu is conducive to elaboration where as extemporaneous can promote rambling.
