Personnel Psychology

Definition

Psychological research centered around people at work.

Personnel Psychology focuses on a full range of human resource management and organizational behavior topics, including job analysis, selection and recruiting, training and development, performance appraisal and feedback, and many many more.

Research conducted at multiple levels of analysis, including individual, team, and organizational levels

Professional Skills

Personnel Psychology defines and measures job performance, performance appraisal, employment tests, employment interviews, employee selection and employee training, and human factors

-Analyzes corporate culture and individual and group interactions.

-Develops and evaluates employee selection and appraisal techniques.

-Assesses corporate leadership and employee motivation strategies.

-Identifies causes and resolutions to internal conflicts.

-Advises management of the potential psychological and social impact of corporate policies.

-Researches ways organizations can effectively manage cultural differences and leadership styles.

-Defines, develops, and/or assesses global leadership competencies/experiences.

The employment tests base your work ethic on how you answer the questions ion the test. The test will benefit your position in the work place, or it can turn it completely around if you are unfit for the position.

History

The study of psychology started around the Ancient Greek period, and soon after many countries started learning about it more, and they studied it in a scholarly (concerned with academic learning and research) manner.

In the 1870's, psychology developed into an independent scientific discipline in Germany and the United States

In 1935, the psychology started to seperate. and by seperate i mean divide into different departments, such as behavioral psychology, cognitive psychology, personnel psychology, ect.

Many practices in psychology are being used today and have been very effective in society.

Schooling

-M. A. or PhD in psychology

M.A. Degree Requirements

Students must complete at least 48 credits, (statistics, measurement, and learning), 30 credits in counseling theory and practice, and 6 credits in a related field or minor.

-no language requirements (yay!)

Final Exam—The final exam is written and you have to submit a portfolio that includes proof of the work you have done.

Ph.D. Degree Requirements

Students must complete credits in statistics, measurement, learning, social psychology, issues in educational psychology, and research methods; 51 credits in counseling theory and practice, practica, and internships; 12 credits in a supporting program or minor; and 24 thesis credits.
