To begin the battle Hannibal had elephants charge in attempt to scare and confuse the enemy, Scipio was prepared and his soldiers made gaps for the elephants to run through and made loud sounds to scare the elephants. Scipio anticipation of the elephants was a key to the battle and helped neutralized his opponents strength.
