  • Egyptians had very bad teeth
  • they would eat a mixture of sand and food
  • sand would wear down the enamel, exposing the nerves
  • when you had a loose tooth, a gold wire was wrapped around it to keep it in place
  • it was believed that teeth were needed in the afterlife

Medicine, magic and dentistry in ancient Egypt was quite developed. They had lots of cures for illnesses, injuries, toothaches and earaches. Some medical and dental procedures from ancient Egypt are still used today.

Conclusion

Medicine and dentistry are quite advanced in Egypt. Even though Egypt was an ancient civilization, a lot of treatments and procedures done in that time are still done and used today.

Medical papyri are how we learned all of this medical information from the Egyptians. The Egyptians had recorded their cures on a piece of papyri so that they could not be lost. There were three very important ones...

  • herbal remedies
  • believed that evil spirits caused some illnesses

Toothaches, earaches etc.
