Write your podcast script on the following topics

  • Jack- The role of lipids in the body
  • Floss- Lipids and cardiovascular health
  • Emily- Cholestrol and dietary factors in CHD
  • Josh- Modification of diet to the diet to reduce the risk of CHD

We will be recording the podcasts at the end of the lesson.

Remember to include the questions that you want the interviewer to ask you.

1) To be able to give examples of how the physical properties of fats and oils are exploited in basic recipes

2) To be able to describe the potential health problems of eating a diet high in fat

3) To have employed independent research using the internet and books to have completed tasks during the lesson

Task

Each student needs to produce a table listing the different types of fat

that can be used to make the following products:

Josh - Making cakes and deep fat frying

Jack- Spreading on bread and making scones

Floss- Making a white sauce and making shortcrust pastry

Emily- Making flaky pastry and making shortbread

You have to jusifty the reason for choosing the type of fat. You must include

the reasons why the fat is used for this product

Make a copy of your table for the rest of the group to have

Melting points, smoke points and flash points
