Climatogram
- A group known as Kwon’s Future Forest is creating the “Great Green Wall” in an effort to prevent further spread of the desert. They have planted nearly 4 million saplings so far and intend to plant a total of 1 billion. This is called afforestation, and helps restore areas where the land has been degraded.
Cold Desert Biome
The most substantial cold desert is the Gobi which is a major part of China and Mongolia.
5 major Decomposers/scavengers
- Deinococcus gobiensis
- Mongolian Death Worm
- Snowy owl
- Golden eagle
Endangered animals:
- Musk Ox
- Snow Leopard
- Gobi Bear
- Bactrian Camel
Abiotic Factors of The Gobi Desert
- Average of 7.6 inches of rainfall a year
- Temperature; Summer high: 122°F Winter low: -40°F
- Temperature can shift 60°F in 24 hours
- Violent winds create frequent sandstorms, and icy sandstorms during winter months

Key species in the Gobi Desert
- One main issue for the Gobi desert is desertification which is a process that turn fertile land and soil into desert areas. This is both attributed to humans, clear cutting, and the nature, with droughts and fires
5 Major Autotrophs
- Saxual- small trees that provides shelter
- Batis
- Bindweed- problematic weeds, some are endangered
- Wild garlic
- Ephedra- used to treat asthma, hay fever and the common cold
Abiotic Factors of The Gobi Desert
5 major heterotrophs
- Marbled Polecat
- Gobi Bea
- Plate-tailed Gecko
- Musk Oxen-shed wool which can be made into fine cloth. endangered due to excessive hunting
- Snow Leopard-endangered
- The majority of the desert contains a fine powdery dirt which is due to the high winds eroding most of the geographic features
- The soil has a high salt content making diversity among vegetation low
- The water table is very deep but contains vast amounts of water, this being the main limiting factor along with the climate.
