Problems faced

He realized if there were cars all lined up the ones in the back would not be able to see because of the cars in front of them. To make sure everyone could see Hollingshead put ramps on the ground. He figured that a stack of ramps would make the cars taller, and it worked.

what is a drive-in movie ?

A drive-in movie shows movies that are in movie theaters. Sometimes it's poor quality sound it just depends on what speaker you get. It"s now improved and now you can listen to it on your FM radio.

Financial Issues

Who else was involved ?

The financial backing came from Willie Warren Smith. A road contracter byt he name of Edward Ellis was offered some of the stock for paving the theatre lot. Oliver Willets, a 4th investor, provided seed money for some of the company's stocks.

The drive-in movie theatre was closed by 1936 and "moved" to Union by the man who bought it. . Hollingshead had high film rental costs as the major reason behind the drive-in's lack of profits (he paid $400 for a 4-day for a rental of "Wives Beware" when Hollywood studios made it for indoor exhibitors for $20 a week).

When/Where ?

The first ever Drive-in movie theater was issued June 6, 1933 on Crescent Boulevard in Camden, New Jersey.

Did You Know ?

Who ?

Hollingshead created the drive-in movies for his "rather large" mother.

A man named Richard Hollingshead Jr. had the idea of the first drive-in movie. Before this he owned and worked his own automotive supply store called "Whiz Auto Products Company".
