5E Cycle In Depth

  • Independently read the article, annotating, and writing key notes in margins.
  • Be ready to discuss each stage and apply knowledge to your lesson plans.

Scientists Must Collaborate!

5E Introduction!

Objectives:

  • PTs will implement a 5E lesson structure into their lesson plans.
  • PTs will be able to execute an inquiry lab in the classroom with clear directions and effective procedures.
  • PTs will develop a list of inquiry labs (engage/explore activities) to be used in their upcoming units.
  • PTs will be able to implement grouping strategies into their classroom that increase student participation and understanding of directions.
  • Engage - Hook
  • Explore - Challenge/Activate Prior Knowledge
  • Explain - Teach New Concept
  • Elaborate - Practice (we do/you do)
  • Evaluate - Exit Ticket
  • Work in small groups based on current grade levels.
  • Go around and tell each other your current unit of study and the major topics of your next unit.
  • Write out inquiry ideas (engage/explore) for your common units on the poster paper at your table.
  • Whole group share out in 15minutes!
