- Hospitality is the relationship between the guest and the host, or the act of being hospitable.
- Tourism is travel for recreation, leisure, religious, family, or business purposes, usually for a limited duration
The Hospitality industry is a broad category of fields within the service industry that includes lodging, event planning, theme parks, transportation, cruise line, and additional fields within the tourism industry.
This industry has become one of the biggest retail employers in the nation and employs millions of people per year.

- Hospitality & Tourism supported about 7.8 million jobs in the U.S. and generated about 1.5 trillion in economic output in 2012.
- In 2011 the industry added 273,000 new jobs increasing the employment rate by 17% in the last ten years.
