There are 3 types of gas mixtures available.

1.compressed air

2. heliox air-a mixture of helium and oxygen.

3. trimix- a mixture of oxygen, helium and nitrogen.

Regulator

Diver's tank

The regulator automatically lets the diver pick the pressure of the gas mixture and keeps the pressure sealed inside the lungs to equal the pressure on the outside of the lungs.

The diver picks the gas mixture that best suits the depth and length of time they are under the water.

The pressure around the diver increases as he descends. The pressure around him compresses the air that exits the tank. The deeper he goes, the greater the quantity of air he needs with each breath, and the quicker he will use the air in his tank.

Divers need to breathe

A diver needs his tank because humans can't breathe under water. One of the most common tanks in recreational diving is the aluminum 80 cubic foot tank. The deeper they go the more air they will need. The air is compressed to 3000 pounds per a square inch.
