Pakistan, as well as much of the middle east, shares awful treatment of women. Domestic violence and low literacy rates are prevalent in these societies. These are the problems that Malala hopes to help change in society.

Malala Yousafzai, a teenage

girl from the Islamic republic

of Pakistan, has embattled

herself in a fight for women's

rights world wide. Despite

opposition from much of her

own country, and the Arab

world, she continues to fight

for education for women,

acting as a beacon of hope for

women worldwide. Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali Jinnah have influenced Yousafzai.

After the horrible incident that occurred while Malala was leaving school, Malala was rushed to an urgent medical center in the west. She has since made a full recovery. Nevertheless, she has not given up on her agenda to improve the quality of life for women, as well as to demand education as a right for all women world wide. She currently resides in Birmingham, United Kingdom. She plans on going to Stanford for collage.

Thesis: Malala is a great example of an upstander who stood up for women's rights. She was influenced by many historical figures that encouraged her to take a stand for what she believes in, Now she too, has inspired many women to become upstanders and to help solve problems in society.
