Our goals for Recycling club

I hope to teach students about how harmful pollution can be to the environment, what the different types of pollution there is, and how we can help stop the world from making more pollution.

Who and When?

During our meetings, we take up the recycling bins of every classroom that puts their bins out. We also talk about recycling and how it helps the environment, and how pollution harms the environment.

So far, It is just me and my class participating in recycling club, and we might add in other 5th grade classes, too. We meet every other Friday from 11:30-12:20 in room D122.

Why did I want to start a recycling club at school?

I wanted to start recycling club when I found out about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP), which is a pooling area for garbage that is pulled there from oceans all over the world. The GPGP is mostly made up of microscopic bits and pieces of plastic, which does not break down.

After I researched the GPGP more, I thought about ways we could help stop it from growing. Then I thought about all the paper we use at school and thought we could start a recycling club.

I then worked with my teacher to start a club, and we've just gotten together and started.
