FORESTS

Introduction

MORE ABOUT FORESTS........

Forests are essential for life on earth. Three hundred million people worldwide live in forests and 1.6 billion depend on them for their livelihoods. Forests also provide habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered.

They protect our watersheds. They inspire wonder and provide places for recreation. They supply the oxygen we need to survive. They provide the timber for products we use every day.Forests are so much more than a collection of trees.

this presentation explain about Living resources ,forests, fisheries .how they are related and all about the topics.

These organisms may be potential exploitation resources for some industries with direct

applications in everyday life. Examples: pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, materials engineering,

among others.

Non living things

  • food
  • water
  • gold

Some of the jobs that are available in fisheries include:

But the only ones considered as belonging to the continental shelf are the living organisms

that, when captured, are either immobile on the sea bed (e.g. sponges and corals) or subsoil

(e.g. annelids and nematodes (worms), bacteria), or that move in constant physical contact

with the seabed or the subsoil (e.g. echinoderms (stars, urchins) and some fish).

LIVING RESOURCES

AND MORE....

The whole area of extension of the Shelf has living resources (fauna, bacteria, fungus) that live

on the soil and subsoil of this area.

Examples of living resources

  • people
  • animals
  • plants

WHAT IS “FISHERIES”?

Forests are home to 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. These ecosystems are complex webs of organisms that include plants, animals, fungi and bacteria. Forests take many forms, depending on their latitude, local soil, rainfall and prevailing temperatures.

Fisheries

Unlike many other industries, in the case of living resources, it is possible, from a small amount

of collected material, to test the existence of a wide variety of chemical compounds, and then

synthesize those same compounds in the laboratory, without requiring a new collection in

nature.

WHAT IS FORESTRY?

non-living resources

American fisheries society

forests are being destroyed

“Fisheries” is the career field dealing with fisheries science and management. A “fishery” is an aquatic resource that has biological (typically fish), environmental (like water quality), and social (people) components. Fisheries professionals may work for the government, nonprofit organizations, universities and colleges, or private industry, and their work may range from conducting research and investigating problems, to managing a specific fishery in a region, to raising aquatic species in a hatchery.

non living things do not have all the characteristics of living things.

The legal classification of land uses in a country . Some definitions of ‘forest’ depend on the actual vegetation on the ground. Other definitions are based on a legally defined land area under the jurisdiction of the national agency managing forests.

In Indonesia, the island of Sumatra has lost 85% of its forests—primarily due to conversion for oil palm and pulp plantations—and a similar level of destruction is taking place on the island of Borneo. Deforestation also undermines the important carbon sink function of forests. It is estimated that 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions are the result of deforestation.

The American Fisheries Society (AFS) is the world’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to strengthening the fisheries profession, advancing fisheries science, and conserving fisheries resources.

The industry or occupation devoted to the catching, processing, or selling of fish, shellfish, or other aquatic animals.

Deforestation comes in many forms, including fires, clear-cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. This impacts people’s livelihoods and threatens a wide range of plant and animal species. Some 46-58 million square miles of forest are lost each year—equivalent to 48 football fields every minute.

AMAZON RAINFOREST

The Amazon, the planet’s largest rainforest, lost at least 17% of its forest cover in the last half century due to human activity.
