Healthy coping strategies are techniques that help reduce anxiety in a way that does not harm you.
Unhealthy coping strategies actually increase your stress because they lead to other problems.
Telling a professional that you or your friend are:
(a) at risk of harming or hurting themselves,
(b) already harming or hurting themselves,
(c) talking about suicide,
(d) planning suicide
(e) have access to a form of carrying out suicide or hurting themselves (ex. a weapon or medication)
(f) using illegal drugs or alcohol to cope
(g) using prescribed medications for the wrong reasons
(h) shared an experience that you are concerned about or you have had an experience you are concerned about
DOES NOT mean you or your friend are in trouble!
Emotions and feelings can feel bad or good, but they all serve a purpose for us (even sadness!)
Our feelings and emotions are natural responses to what we experience within ourselves and outside of ourselves
Friends are important people in our lives...
... as a friend, we care about their health, safety & well-being!
There is NO SHAME in having emotions- in fact it makes you human... we all have them!

Everyone can struggle with being resilient and our friends can also struggle with "bouncing back" from something difficult.
It's REALLY important to let someone know. Unhealthy coping strategies can be dangerous and it's important for you and/or your friend to get help from a professional, as soon as possible.
What's important is how we handle our difficult experiences and emotions.
