Claim: what the author is trying to prove
Counter-claim: what the other side might say or try to prove; the opposite of the author's claim
Evidence: support for the author's claim: details, examples, facts...

Evaluate an author's claim.
This means to decide what it is and if it is valid.
Identify the support author uses to prove their claim.

It is not a claim if...
-it can't be proven
-it does not have 2 sides.
Example: It's snowing now.
-it is a statement of opinion. Example: I like tacos.
You can check your claim by trying to come up with a counterclaim. If there is not an opposing side, you do not have a claim.
