  • Austria-Hungary was part of the Triple Alliance, therefore was blamed for losses on the Allies (Entente) side.
  • Like Germany it was to be punished for its actions but was punished more leniently than Germany.
  • This was the Treaty that officially dealt with Austria.
  • Hungary was unable to attend so another Treaty was made for them, the Treaty of Trianon.

  • The Treaty was signed between the Allied Powers and Austria
  • Unfortunately, Hungary was not able to attend due to a war with Romania

  • The Treaty officially dissolved the Austrian-Hungarian Empire in to different, separate countries.
  • It recognized Hungary, Poland, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia as independent.
  • Land was annexed from Austria and was given to Italy and other European countries like Poland.
  • Austria was forbidden from joining economically or politically with Germany.
  • Austria's army was limited to 30,000 men.
  • Austria was liable for war reparations, howver they did not actually pay anything.
  • Instead a measurable sum of livestock was given to the Allies.

When was the Treaty Signed?

  • The Treaty was signed on September 10, 1919 at Saint Germain-en-Laye.
  • However, it did not come into effect until July 16, 1920.
